Stari grad Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cenarius: Hi hrvoje.mikolcevic,

Unfortunately there's been some continuing issues with this cache and there is no reaction from the owner. Since the cache no longer meets the Guidelines requirements, I am archiving it. I'm also archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

If you think you have legitimate reasons for lack of maintenance and want to restore the cache in the near future, please let me know as soon as possible by the email provided in my profile. The message must include the GC code and the name of the cache. If the cache meets the requirements of the Guidelines and the reasons for unarchiving are justified, I may unarchive the cache.

IMPORTANT:
In case of permanent archiving of the cache, the owners are obliged to remove everything that they have placed on the field in relation to the cache (container and all placed waypoints).

Thank you for your understanding and best regards.

Geocache Description:

Geocache is nearby the stage.

Iako utvrde više nema, požežani brijeg još uvijek zovu "Stari grad", a on je danas park i šetalište.

English:

Medieval town Požega was organized around fortress on the hill which is today in the center of the town,
and civil village was placed on its north and west side and it was surrounded by walls.
Until the arrival of the Turks, owners of the fortress "Castrum de Posega" were members of the royal family and the town was managed by castellans. Some of the owners and managers of the town were:
Queen Maria, wife of Bella IV, Tomasina Morosini, duchess of "whole Slavonia" and mother of the last Arapadović; Andrew III and also her brother Albert Morosini, Paul Gorjanski and Ladislav Moro.
The town had elongated, irregular, hexagon layout, it was surrounded by stone walls and it had several buildings and towers. The town was dominated by high rounded defense-tower.
Also, the town had one very deep well.
Devastation of the fortress starts with the end of the Turk occupation, and by the end of the Turk distress the devastation speeds up because the town was badly maintained. With the Leopold's II deed of donation in 1791, fortress became property of the town, but already it was in bad condition.
In the beginning of the 19th century citizens got permissions to transfer the structure from the fortress, and its remains were removed in 1877 during decoration of the boardwalk.
Today fortress has only a few small fragments left.
Although the fortress doesn't exist anymore, citizens of Požega still call the hill "Old town", and today it's a Park and a boardwalk. From top of the hill, on its west side there is a lovely view on Požega, especially on its central part.
