Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a "Walk in the Woods" series which is meant to highlight some of the trails in nearby state parks and forests. The cache is located approximately 40 feet from the Plantation (Brown) Trail in Cedarville State Forest. The cache is a medium-sized lock-and-lock container. Please bring your own pen/pencil.

This cache is what happens when you are fixated on a general location but are limited by existing geocaches, park boundaries, and water. The result is that the cache is placed within an area that is protected by thorns. While these were not too bad in the spring, when the cache was placed, they could be worse in summer. I did not spot any poison ivy nor did I end up at the urgent care clinic with blisters on my arms (my normal method of finding poison ivy). However, care should be taken in the summer.

Parking for the cache is available at Cedarville Pond which can be reached via the unpaved Forest Road. While this road travels through the area of the park where hunting is permitted, the portion of the Plantation Trail that lies East of Forest Road and this cache are within a non-hunting area of the park.

Cedarville State Forest consists of 3,510 acres and includes the headwaters of the Zekiah Swamp. The forest includes five marked trails--Blue, Brown, Green, Orange and White--comprising over 19 miles of developed trails. These trails were constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. There is currently a $3.00 per vehicle fee to enter this park. You may refer to their web site (visit link) for updated information. Please observe all park regulations including their hours of operation and the restriction of parking to designated areas.

This cache was placed with the approval of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
