In doing so you will carry on from Gurnal Dubs to Garnett Bridge, head up the Longsleddale valley to Nether House Farm before turning west, heading over the northern part of the fell below Brunt Knott and back towards Staveley. The total walking distance Staveley to Staveley is just under 10 miles. Although on clear tracks throughout, the westbound section has the additional advantage of being very lightly used and hence mainly on grassy trods. In fifteen years of walking it in both bright sunshine and thick mist we have only once met someone else and curiously it was a LDNP warden on litter picking and path checking duties!

We cross the ladder stile and go straight across the marsh, turning left at the far side. However a new step stile has been built at the wall corner and a new route over the marsh developed. You may well ask why!
