Geocache Description:

Just up the road from Six Penny Brook is a nice footpath at the enterance to the village of Alresford.

This footpath runs alongside open fields leading to Cockaynes Wood nature reserve, run by Essex Wildlife Trust. Along the way you may be lucky to see many varieties of Butterflies and hear the Skylarks and other birds in the fields and hedgerows. Cockaynes Wood is listed in the Doomsday book of 1086. The reserve is just starting out and consists of the old disused quarry, dry heath land, grassy meadows and shallow water pools. Further parking can be found along the roadside in the village and walk down Cockaynes Lane. Be aware of the traffic though.
