CASTELLO DI VALBONA
Questo imponente fortilizio a pianta rettangolare è una splendida e ancora intatta testimonianza del suo glorioso passato, edificato in un’epoca non ben precisa nella prima metà del Duecento.
Il castello sorge ai piedi del Monte Lozzo ed è un importante esempio di baluardo difensivo a difesa di un territorio di confine tra i Colli Euganei e i Monti Berici, teatro di scontri tra Padovani, Scaligeri, Estensi e Vicentini. Conserva una cinta muraria pressoché intatta, torri esagonali, coronate da merli ghibellini e guelfi, e due torri a pianta quadrata. Quasi al centro del castello si erge la torre maestra.
Il Castello di Valbona è ora la sede di un ristorante e di una cantina. Ed eccovi una curiosità: ogni terza domenica del mese di agosto, in occasione dei festeggiamenti del patrono del borgo, si svolge una rievocazione storica di epoca medievale.

This impressive and beautiful rectangular fort is still an intact testimony to its glorious past. It was built in the first half of the 13th century but the exact year is uncertain.
The castle is located at the foot of Monte Lozzo and is an important example of a defensive fortress along the border land between the Euganean and Berici Mountains which was the setting of clashes between the peoples of Padua, Verona, Este and Vicenza. It preserves nearly intact city walls, hexagonal towers crowned by Guelph and Ghibelline battlements, and two square towers. The main tower rises almost in the centre of the castle.
Valbona Castle is now home to a restaurant and a wine cellar. Every third Sunday in August a medieval re-enactment is held at the castle during the celebration of the patron saint of the village.

Dieses mächtige Fort mit seiner rechteckigen Anlage ist ein prächtiges, noch unversehrt erhaltenes Zeugnis für eine glorreiche Vergangenheit. Es wurde in einer nicht genau überlieferten Zeit in der ersten Hälfte des 13. Jahrhunderts erbaut.
Das Castello di Valbona zu Füßen des Monte Lozzo ist ein bedeutendes Beispiel für ein Bollwerk zur Verteidigung des Grenzlandes zwischen den Euganeischen Hügeln und den Monti Berici, Schauplatz von Auseinandersetzungen zwischen Paduanern, Skaligern, Estensern und Vicentinern. Es umfasst einen nahezu unversehrt erhaltenen Mauerring, sechseckige Türme mit ghibellinischen und guelfischen Zinnen sowie zwei quadratische Türme. Fast genau in der Mitte der Anlage ragt der Hauptturm auf.
Heute befinden sich im Castello di Valbona ein Restaurant und ein Weinkeller. Und wenn es Sie interessiert: Am dritten Sonntag im August findet jedes Jahr anlässlich der Feiern zu Ehren des Stadtheiligen ein Historienspiel aus dem Mittelalter statt.
