What started out as a simple mini-series of 4 caches close to home has now, driven by our love for both the area we live in and for geocaching as a hobby, developed into a 12km 18-cache circuit taking in the beautiful countryside around Breaston, Risley, Sandiacre and Stanton-by-Dale. Why 18 caches I hear you ask. Well, much of the route is close to and at times crosses a couple of golf courses so we felt obliged to make it a full round!
We believe in the use of caches to encourage folk to get out and enjoy the countryside, therefore most of our caches are pretty easy to find even without resorting to the hint. We hope to please our fellow cachers with the design and placement of our caches rather than the effort required to find them. We estimate that the entire series can be completed within 6 hours, although if you decide to include other caches on the way (and there are many!) then this will obviously affect your timing, as will a prolonged stay in any of the pubs!
To help you on your quest we’ve attached a map of the intended circular route to this cache (although obviously your starting point might differ from the location of cache 1). Please park responsibly. If you’re peckish or thirsty there are ample opportunities for refreshments along the way in Breaston, Stanton-by-Dale and Risley
The caches in this series are of various shapes and sizes so there are several opportunities for swaps and trackables, but you will require your own pen(cil) and possibly tweezers for some of the smaller ones.
The footpaths along the way are well used so usually clear and dry, but in most cases not suitable for pushchairs I'm afraid. If you're not keen on dogs or horses you might want to avoid this series altogether! Also bear in mind that parts of the route cross golf courses so keep an eye out for wayward balls!
Happy hunting from the Hudsons (Simon, Jorune, Emma, Beth, Lucy & Abigail).
Cache 1 (Field Trip) is a small container with a pencil and room for very small swaps & trackables.
