This cache has been archived.

Michael: This cache needs to be moved. once it is moved I will be happy to unarchive the cache page. Please contact me when you are ready.
We received the following at Groundspeak via email.

"Hello,
As Chair of the Cons. Commission responsible for maintenance of Geprag's Park (and a geocache member) I extend the Commision's open invitation to use the park to site one or more geocaches. Unfortunately the current siting of GC546F ("Old Barn") is on an archaeological site that is both protected and scheduled to be explored over the coming summer months. There was no way for your organization to know this as the site was not marked to prevent vandalism. However, I must formally request that the cache be moved as soon as is convenient to another location within the park to prevent further traffic/disruption of this protected site. Additionally, you should note that we are installing a wind tower approximately 100m east of the current geocache siting. Clearing of the thorny underbrush in preparation is to begin over the next 2 weeks. "

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Geocache Description:

This is your basic ammo box cache, hidden off one of the winding trails in Geprag Park. The trails are fairly easy and the main trails are routinely mowed in the spring and summer. In the winter you can cross-country ski to the cache.

The parking area for Geprag Park is at N44 20.446 W73 07.563.

The cache is named after the reconstructed old barn in Geprag Park, originally erected over 100 years ago and recently restored to look as it did when it was originally built.  While you can reach the cache without walking directly by the old barn, the original placers of the cache intended for you to stop by and appreciate it.  The old barn is at N44 20.574 W73 07.426.  If you walk from the parking area to the barn, then head off for the actual cache, you'll be adhering to the spirit of the original cache placers' design for this cache.  Sometime in the winter of 2004-2005, the barn was heavily vandalized, but you're still welcome to stop by and look.

There're two nice benches to sit and admire the view from.  One is at N44 20.526 W73 07.398 ("BENCH" in the map above) and one is at N44 20.467 W73 07.433 ("ANOTHER BENCH").

Cache history: The cache was originally placed by "tom, gareth, and kyle," but they apparently forgot about it or dropped out of active geocaching; the cache took some serious wear and tear and attempts to contact them failed.  After several cache entries noted the dilapidated state of the cache, Otter and Lemur replaced the container and logbook and volunteered to assume ownership of the cache.   The cache is now on its third container -- the original replacement container was muggled sometime in April or May of 2005 and was replaced with yet another container, an ammo box, on May 23, 2005.   In late April of 2006, scubatime offered to adopt the cache.
