50 State Puzzler Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Rebel Cruzer: Took advantage of the nice weather this morning and went on a cache maintenance adventure! Sad to say I pulled this container. It was soaked again, because noone could ever get it shut properly... Time to travel on...

50 State Puzzler

This little buggy (bugger?) is NOT on a whirlwind tour of the 50 states! It's staying right where it is!

Groundspeak no longer allows Travel Caches to be listed, and there are only a few left still floating around out there! These caches are "Grandfathered" under the old guidelines, and therefore cannot be adopted. So when they get archived, they are gone forever! Travelers are essentially an endangered geocache species!

Recently, I was lucky enough to find and log two Travel Caches in a two week span! On June 17, 2015, I found GC8E37 The Corps of Discovery while it was "In Camp" at Lake Ontelaunee, near Reading, PA. Then, on June 30, 2015 GC4241 50 State Traveler was parked in Delaware, inside GC3DYYT "Your Key To Cache."

At first, I wasn't intending to pick it up. But I had watched it's travels, and saw it skipped right past Pennsylvania, on it's way from Connecticut, stopping briefly in New Jersey on the way.

I woke up early on July 1 and checked the cache listing to see if it had moved yet. It hadn't! So I made the 50 mile drive to Delaware. Well, when I got there and discovered 50 State Traveler in such a mega favorite cache, I decided right then and there to separate these two, and relocate it to PA! Who knows where it might have ended up next! Plus, this cache is all about having fun, and that's what I set out to do!

From looking through the logs, I was able to determine that the 50 State Traveler was in PA only two other times. The cache was originally placed in New York on March 27, 2002, and didn't make it's way into the Keystone State until May 17, 2007 when it was placed near Lawrenceville, PA in Tioga County. It moved on after a few days, but reappeared in PA, on September 17, 2008. The cache bounced around a few places in Susquehanna County, before being whisked away to Arizona on September 29, 2008. As far as I can tell, that was it's last visit to Pennsylvania... until I brought it here!

I had the TB/Cache for about twelve hours, and took it to several caches in DE and PA. I also ran into some caching friends who got to log 50 State Traveler as I was on my way to re-hide it! I thought long and hard about where to place it. Then, I remembered a cool little spot I found along the Beechwood Trail in the Pennypack Trust. I'd been meaning to put a cache in that spot for awhile, but just didn't have the right container for it.

Well, now I did! So I placed 50 State Traveler there!

It rested there almost four days, and was in the Philadelphia, PA area throughout the July 4th holiday! Dozens of cachers visited the site to log the cache! Then it got plucked up July 5, 2015 to visit more of our great state! And as I type this, the 50 State Traveler is on the road again! Destination unknown!

It was fun while it lasted, and I'm humbled to have played a small role in relocating this storied cache!

Thank You Crusso!

To commemorate the experience, I decided to place a permanent replica puzzle cache at this location! Here's your chance to visit a neat area, and see the spot where the historic 50 State Traveler once rested! If you found the 50 State Traveler there, you already know where to go! If you didn't, I'm sure you'll figure it out!

* Do not crank the lid so tight that someone else can't open it. Just snug it! * Turn lightly till some initial resistance is felt, then turn about 1/2 turn more. ** There will be about two threads still showing when it is tight enough. **
