Geocache Description:

This cache has changed into an earth cache. Since the cache itself had been muggled 3 times within a week of being placed. I first wanted to archive the cache, but it is such a popular and valued cache, that I have looked for a way to keep it up, and this is a way to do it. So, I have included geological information and a task for you to perform, in line with the earth cache guidelines.

My parents had their vacation home 'Villa Mira' built about 40 years ago. I spent all my childhood vacations here in Denia and have many happy memories here. I've been coming to Denia for 40 years, first with my parents, brother and sisters, and later on with my husband and our two kids, and I want to celebrate this with a couple of caches, the 'Childhood Memories Cache' (CMC) series .

When on vacation in Denia, my brother, sisters and I could always choose a toy from the local toy store or from the Monday market. I was particularly fond of this specific kind of toy. Only, in the Spanish boxes in the seventies/eighties of the last century always some part appeared to be missing. Sometimes to my disappointment, but I was always happier with all the parts that were indeed in the box. So, it never spoiled the fun. In 2009 my husband and I were in Denia to spend our summer vacation here, for the first time with our own kids. It was a huge surprise to discover this 'object' had been erected one year before in the old fishermen's neighborhood Baix al Mar... and it immediately brought back many fun childhood memories I have playing with this toy. Now I hope you have fun with this cache.

To log this cache you have to do the following: Firstly, take a picture of you and your gps at the obvious object. You post this picture along with your log. Secondly, mail us the answer to the following questions: 1. Between the feet of the object you see an icon, what is it? 2. What is the lowest date at the feet of the object? Thirdly, and here is the geological part, with at the end the THIRD AND LAST QUESTION to answer: Go back to the harbor, and look in the direction of the object you have just visited. In the back you see the old 'castillo' on the rocky formation. Further in the back, you see the skyline dominating mountain behind the city of Denia. It has a remarkable long stretched and flat 'back'. The mountain is the last spur on the Cordillera Prebética Mountain Range and is located in the Marina Alta region in the north of Alicante between the towns of Dénia and Xàbia. The mountain rises dramatically from the valley floors surrounding it and dominates the skyline for miles around. Its craggy cliffs are home to some of the most unusual flora and fauna in Spain. The mountain is renowned for its rock formations, cliffs, caves and natural harbors. Because of its extraordinary wealth of flora, fauna and ecosystems the mountain and surrounding area were declared an officially protected nature reserve in 1987. The nature reserve encompases 2150 hectares (5312 acres) around the mountain. It includes a coastal section that covers over 3 kilometres (1.9 miles). The reserve contains important archaeological finds such as cave paintings, Phoenician amphoras and the remains of Iberian settlements. The mountain was formed during the Cretaceous period, some 70 million years ago, when plate tectonic processes forced the African and European continental plates upwards, creating spectacular mountainous landscapes such as that of the mountain you're looking at. Over the next few million years, strong erosion and rock slides sculpted it to the shape it has today. The geological composition of this Nature Reserve is characterized by Cretaceous materials. On the lower parts, marl and marlaceous lime abound, while the escarpments are formed by compact limestone. THIRD AND FINAL QUESTION is: what is the name of this mountain? Mail us your answers first, then log with the picture at the object on the cache page. Do not include the answers to the 3 questions in your log.
