Geocache Description:

The Valley Pronunciation Guide (VPG) cache series highlights places commonly mispronounced by non-natives (that includes us)!

The "Queen City" is the queen of mispronunciations in the Shenandoah Valley. The "u" is silent - STAN-tun, not STAWN-tun.

This is a replacement for the original VPG:  STAN-tun cache, a nano we tried in two different locations that went missing over a dozen times. In Wilson/Sears Hill Park, your destination is an overlook with benches and a nice display telling you what you can see from here - an excellent view overlooking downtown.  Just below your position you can see the "wharf" buildings with their 2nd floor loading docks. The clock tower, courthouse, and Mary Baldwin College are a few downtown landmarks you can spy from here.

If you did the offset version (caches #4 to about 15) of the original cache, this very easy mini-puzzle should be somewhat familiar.  Count the number of vertical cylindrical posts on the decorative black rail at the overlook - don't include the square main posts. This number is AB.

The final cache, a camouflaged match container, is not far away at N38º 08.7(B+1)3 W79º 04.3(A+1)4.

The historic bridge to Wilson/Sears Hill Park from downtown Staunton has been replaced, so you can approach this cache two directions. From downtown, park near the train station. From the south, parking is on Winthrop Street where it meets Sears Hill Road. This cache is registered with the Staunton Department of Recreation and Parks. Have fun!
