Geocache Description:

The Cothiemuir Wood circle stands in a clearing in a conifer plantation. Although some of the circle stones are missing and some are fallen, it is still an imposing site. The impressive 20ton recumbent is 4.2m long and is flanked by two curiously shaped stones, 2.9m high at the east, and 2.7m at the west, this stone being aligned on the major southern moonset. The recumbent is of basalt and the circle stones are mostly of red granite. In the centre of the circle is a pit which is covered by a thick 1m square block of granite, we could not see how deep or big this feature was. If you plan to visit this site in the summer months I would certainly recommend the use of an effective insect repellent!
