Geocache Description:

Cache placed by the National Trust. Crag Hill has something of the "surface of the moon" feeling about its open, domed summit, which belies the fact that you're surrounded on almost every side by sharp drops and dramatic crags.

Like Hopegill Head, Crag Hill is part of the Buttermere Commons - this means a longish walk in and the chance to join together a series of summits with some satisfying ridgeline walking.

The 'moon surface' feel of the summit also belies the fact that Crag Hill is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its unusual alpine plants, including a tree that grows only 1cm high. You can read more about this miniature forest when you get to the cache.

In poor visibility or in high winds please take extra care to keep back from the edges of the crags.

The cache is placed in a group of boulders at the southern edge of the scree slopes at the northern corner of Crag Hill.
