This Cache is placed as part of the New York State Park Saratoga/Capital District Regional Geocache Challenge. There are 52 geocaches hidden within 16 state parks and historic sites in this parks region, and geocachers finding 35 or more will be eligible to enter their names in a drawing for valuable prizes. The first 75 people to find 35 or more caches will receive a special geocache challenge coin. Welcome to Crown Point State Historic Site! Stop by the museum to learn all about the historical importance of this site. This cache will take you near the original site of the ovens in the French Fort. The ovens were used by the British after the French vacated the grounds in 1759. The remains of the ovens you see today have been stabilized to reduce further degradation. This is where the British-made ovens were built over the French ovens, when the French ovens were no longer useful! They were originally beehive ovens and so had stone roofs. In a single day, 900 loaves of bread could be baked. Maybe the well was built nearby to help get all that bread down!
