Geocache Description:

Judd Cove is a small bay and nature preserve on the west side of the sound. This location gets a limited amount of traffic, but has some interesting history behind it.

The cache is a regular sized ammo can, perfect for geoswag and trackables. Please be mindful of all the signage in the area, and if you see any litter, please pick it up. The cache is accessible by the trailhead near the kiln. Look out for thorns, as the cache is not on the trail.

From the interpretive sign:

Gregg's Lime Kiln, built in approximately 1888, is all that remains of a mining, processing, and shipping enterprise that briefly dominated Judd Cove. Limestone was quarried from the adjacent hillside, then hauled downhill and heated in this kiln to manufacture lime, a valuable product of the time. Nearby forests fueled the operation. A wharf was built in Judd Cove for loading the lime on to ships.
