A local dirt road bisects the preserve into north and south sections and the McCoy Creek slowly meanders through it as well. According to an ecological survey of the plants and animals in the wet prairie, there are several threatened species of special concern including the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake, Spotted Turtle, Eastern Box Turtle, White Lady's Slipper, Prairie Indian Plantain, and Edible Valerian.
Please note: due to its very delicate nature, the preserve is not open to the public, there is no parking, and there are no trails. The geocache is somewhere along the roadside. Please pull off of the road as far as possible without getting stuck!
Spend time walking alongside the wet prairie and bring binoculars to spot birds. We have had reports of sandhill cranes spotted far into the preserve. They come to roost around sunset, so if you're lucky, you may see some in flight Again, please do not walk into the preserve!
