Torrebillela Gaztelua
Mungia Uria hasiera batean jauntxo eta familia jakin batzuengandik babesteko sortu zen arren, eurotako baten bastioi bihurtu zen handik gutxira, hain zuzen ere, Billela familia boteretsuarena. Familia horrek partehartze zuzena izan zuen leinuen arteko borroketan eta beragandik jaso du dorretxeak gaur egun duen izena.
Gaztelua eta bere ondoan dagoen ola bat (gero errota bilakatu zena) XIV. mendean eraiki zituzten, jabeen indar ekonomiko eta politikoaren erakusgarri. Torrebillela, garai hartako gainerako dorretxeen antzera, uriaren harresiari dautsala altxatu zuten, babestuta egoteko; orduko eraikin hartatik erdiko gorputzak baino ez du iraun gaur egunera arte.
Bere kokapenari esker herri-gune osoa babesten zuen, izan ere, Torrebillela uriaren sarreran dago, Bilboko bidearen ertz-ertzean. XVI. mendean erabat eraberritu zen.
Babeserako dorrera jauregiak inguratuta geratu zen lau aldeetatik hirutan. Barrualdeak bost solairu zituen, bakoitza nahiko modu berezian banatuta: sotoa eta biltegia; arma-gelarako sarrera (Ip.) eta beste gela; sukaldea eta logelak; egongela zabala; almenak eta defentsarako elementuak.
Azkeneko erreforma XIX: mendean egin zioten, eta orduko aldaketa hark guztiz aldatu zuen bere izaera, defentsarako zituen ezaugarriak galdu eta etxebizitza eroso bilakatu zen leiho gotiko eta errenazentista handiei esker. 2006an egindako eraberritze-lanen ondorioz, XIX. mendean izan zuen itxura berreskuratu du.
Gaur egun hainbat kultur eta dokumentazio zerbitzu eskaintzen dira bertan, besteak beste liburutegia/mediateka, ekitaldi-aretoa, zinea eta erakusketak.
El Castillo Torrebillela
La villa de Mungia, fundada para defenderse de los desmanes de señores guerreros y sus linajes, se convirtió en bastión de otro de ellos: los Billela, familia poderosa de "jauntxos" implicada en las luchas medievales entre linajes. De ellos proviene el nombre del castillo.
El castillo fue construido en el siglo XIV junto a una ferrería (luego molino) muestra del poder económico y político de sus dueños. Estaba adosado a la muralla de la villa, para su defensa, al estilo de otras casas torre (de ello conserva su cuerpo central).
Situado a la entrada de la villa, en el camino de Bilbao, proporcionaba protección a sus habitantes. Se remodeló totalmente en el XVI.
La torre central de defensa quedó rodeada por el "palacio" en tres de sus caras. Interiormente tenía cinco alturas con divisiones interiores complejas, estando distribuida así; sótano y almacén; entrada (N) sala de armas y otra estancia; cocina y habitaciones; gran salón; almacenas y defensa.
La última reforma se realizó en el XIX, perdiendo totalmente el carácter bélico, abriendose grandes vanos de modelos góticos y renacentistas, para convertirse en una cómoda mansión. En 2006 recuperó casi totalmente su aspecto exterior del XIX.
Hoy en día, contiene servicios culturales y de documentación: biblioteca-mediateka, salón de actos y cine, exposiciones.
The Castle Torrebillela
The borough of Mungia, founded to defend itself against the tirany of noble warriors and their lineage, was converted into a fortress by one of the disputing factions: the Billela's, a powerful family of "jauntxos" involved in the medieval battles between lineages. The castle is named after them.
The castle was erected in the XIV century next to a forge (later a mill), evidence of the economic and political strength of its owners. It was attached to the village wall as a defence, similar to other tower houses (the central structure still remains).
Situated at the village entrance, of the road leading to Bilbao, it provided protection to its inhabitants. It was completely refurbished in the XVI century.
The central defensive tower was surrounded by the palace on three of its sides. In the interior it had five storeys with complex interior divisions, being distributed as follows: the cellar and warehouse; entrance (N) armory and quarters; kitchen and bedrooms; warehouse and defence.
The last reform was carried out in the XIX century, losing completely its warlike appearence, creating large corridors modeling the gothic and renaissance to become a comfortable mansion. In 2006, the exterior was almost completely restored to its original appearance of the XIX century.
Today, it houses cultural and documentation services: library, multimedia, assembly hall, cinema and exhibition room.
