Geocache Description:

'The Primrose Line' is a series of caches set by Elephant Hunter along the route of the former GWR railway line of the same name. Instead of the usual geo-trash, each cache contains a card describing a few interesting or notable facts about the history of the line. This is an opportunity to collect a little bit of knowledge instead of pocket litter.

This is an easily accessible clip-lock box sized cache on the forecourt in front of the old Loddiswell Station building. Ample free parking is adjacent and presents the opportunity to combine with a pleasant short (or long) stroll along the valley to take in the scenery and possibly hunt a further few caches.

The cache is hidden immediately adjacent to the old Station - a former railway halt along the 'Primrose Line' which ran between South Brent and Kingsbridge.  The line closed in 1963 after some 70 years service.  Now the house and surrounding grounds are a private house (NB: you do not need to enter the drive or gardens to find this cache!).  The nearby finger-post directs you along a well-used public footpath beside what was once the ticket office, waiting rooms and goods shed and then the old railway yard and onwards along the picturesque river Avon valley.

Stop and admire the interesting architecture of this building or read a little of the history of this Branch Line on the noticeboard on the forecourt.  If the owners are around do say "hello"! The popular footpath starting from this location takes you along a (mostly) level footpath beside the river Avon.  An 'out and back' route of no more than 1km each way should see you hunting for a couple more caches. Alternatively you could undertake a 5km circular route by crossing the river at the first bridge you come to just after the weir then doubling back along the opposite bank; follow the marked path up the hill into Loddiswell village then head down hill again and back to the station.

NB: Mobile telephone reception hereabouts is patchy and network-dependant, the spring/summer tree canopy can affect GPSr performance. Make use of the hint to get a strong idea of precisely where you need to hunt.
