Way Out, East (Les Ecrehous, CI) Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: Time to archive this one. I'll add my Attended log and some amazing photos ASAP (catching up from two long holidays is keeping me busy!) so pop this 'meet' on your watchlist if you'd like to see those. Sorry the date didn't suit anyone but me. Next time? (Keep an eye on summer 2018, perhaps)

Geocache Description:

Be warned: This one WILL be hard to get to...!

When: 2 til 3pm - Saturday 14th June 2014 (Weather permitting).
Where: Les Ecrehous, Channel Islands, English Channel.
Why: As a sister event to 2010's GC22370 - In The Unlikely Event... (Les Minquiers)
Who: Those who take their extreme caching seriously.
How to get there: That's up to you, but an Internet search will produce some suggestions - or contact me for ideas. The event is open to all; bring your sea kayak!

Having started organising 'Extreme Cache Events' in 2007 (if we ignore my Death or Glory! event to climb Scafell Pike -England's highest- in 2006 for a moment) with a trip to St Kilda off the Outer Hebrides (UK's most westerly), following it up by 'going all soft' with St Agnes in the Isles of Scilly (UK's most southerly) in 2008 and semi-hardcore in summer 2009 on Unst in the Shetlands (UK's most northerly) for 2010 I wanted to do something a bit more special. And that didn't mean a trip to Lowestoft!

On top of a walk to Seymour Tower south of Jersey, I organised the Minkies event, but always fancied a trip out to these rocks too... In 2011 I followed those adventures up with a trip to Eigg in the Small Isles, in 2012 it was Bryher, IOS and 2013 InPinn, Isle of Skye. I like to get around :)

The Location: Maîtr'Île in the Les Ecrehous group of rocks, approx. 6 miles north-east of Jersey in the English Channel. As such, it's the most easterly point in the British Channel Isles.

The Event: Once everyone expected to attend has arrived, or at 2pm if that's sooner, we'll find a sheltered spot to talk caching and swap coins and TBs to ensure this unusual event complies with Groundspeak event listing requirements. I also intend to get permission to leave a cache, with a 'local' guardian to maintain it for me, on the island, as I did on the Minkies: GC18X8Y Capt'n Simply's Pirate Booty. Please bring a picnic, or at the very least some water as there's on fresh water on the island and please note, there are no toilets on the island either..!

Also Available: If you can't make June 14th, by chance there's another event on these islands, on June 10th (Tuesday): GC55JKT- Ians Birthday Event by mundy family. Please consider their meet. Also, if it gets bumped due to bad weather, please consider mine :)

I'll also be holding Britain's Eighth Most Remote Event Cache (Jersey) GC4HG14 meet on a tidal island off the south of Jersey the following day, for those who like their extremes not too extreme; Rockall is further west than St Kilda, Muckle Flugga is further north than Unst etc. but like them, no one lives on Les Ecrehous. With that more accessible option, this event would be a meet for the ultra committed only!

Additional Hints (Decrypt)

[The event is to be held on the dry bit, before global warming gets it. Aim for the little square near the customs house on Maîtr'Île]
