Geocache Description:

Junction Ramble is a walk of approximately 8.5 miles centred around a piece of track beloved by railway buffs. Colton Junction is where trains have to decide whether to plough on between London and Edinburgh, along the East Coast Mainline, or branch West on the Trans-Pennine route through Leeds and Manchester to Liverpool. The bridges near the junction are often crowed with enthusiasts especially for a steam special.

Full details are given in Junction Ramble #01 and the Bonus.

#05 of the Junction Ramble Series.

For any railway enthusiasts amongst you, this is the highlight of the walk. Nearby is a footbridge over the railway and if you look South from it, you will see the electrified East Coast Mainline forking left and the Trans-Pennine line branching right. If The Mallard is venturing out from its nearby home of York, there will be standing room only on this bridge.

As your GPS will tell you, the cache is not on or even very close to the railway. The possibility of a cacher accidentally dropping a container onto a London express, is not an amusing thought! If there are trainspotters or railway workmen about, please use stealth. Also, I would not recommend loitering too long on the nearby wooden bridge over the stream, as it has seen better days.
