We have 3 four legged children, Bay Hudson (our 10 year old cat), River Hudson (our 9 year old Boston Terrier) and ADoraBull Hudson (our 8 year old Boston Terrier). This particular cache is all about River and Dora.
Truly an "All-American" dog, the Boston Terrier is a lively and highly intelligent breed with an excellent disposition. Conveying an impression of determination, strength and activity, he is short-headed and compactly built, and must be black, brindle or seal with white markings. Following the Civil War, the Boston Terrier breed was developed in the stables of Boston, Massachusetts, as a fighting dog. An imported dog known as "Judge" (sold to a Boston man in 1870) became the ancestor of almost all true modern Boston Terriers. The breed is an American creation, resulting from a cross between an English Bulldog and a white English Terrier. In 1891, the breed became known as Boston Terriers, taking the name of the city where they originated.
We fell in love with Boston Terriers while living in San Antonio, TX after taking in a 13 year old Boston named Chip that needed a home. Unfortunately, he was only with us for less than a year before passing away but he certainly made his impression on our hearts and Boston love blossomed. After moving to Satellite Beach, FL, we decided that it was time for a puppy, so off to a farm west of us in Cocoa, FL we went where we were greeted by horses, pigs, momma and daddy Bostons, and Rascal, as they called him, the only one left from the litter. He was an unusually large Boston puppy with floppy ears, but he looked like a Hudson to us. He was only a couple months old (born Oct. 14, 2004) so he got renamed River and came home with us to make friends with Bay. They are still pretty tight (for a cat and a dog) and River grew into a large Boston weighing in at 2 Stones and 5 lbs.
One year later we decided that our family needed one more member, so the search began. It was Christmas time, but we found the tiniest puppy that had been born on Oct. 28, 2005 north of us in Alabama and our hearts melted. She was the most adorable thing we had ever seen (you see what we did there). She is an extremely energetic Boston weighing in at 4,352 Drams who loves to fetch, chase squirrels, help mow the lawn/pull weeds, snuggling with River and SWIMMING (her favorite thing to do, and she is an expert swimmer). She is very scared of new people and all animals (besides Bay and River), so she comes off as a bit of a jerk at first in public, but her adorableness usually trumps her attitude for most people, and she is mellowing in her older age.
River and Dora are well traveled dogs and have been caching with us quite a bit on long road trips, they have visited 20 different states plus Washington D.C. They go nuts when their leashes come out. This could mean a walk, a car ride, or OMG OMG BOTH…. happy and crazy yapping/barking begins. They also know exactly what certain words mean, such as “walk”, so we have to shorten our words and phrases while talking in front of them so they don’t go nuts. For instance, “walk” has become “W” or “Dubs”. What would P stand for? While on Dubs, their favorite activity is to go squirrel hunting. Don’t worry, they have only ever caught one squirrel, and it was a baby that once caught they had no idea what to do with besides corner it and bark at it before we came to the rescue. The chase is what they desire and the cache final location area never disappoints them in this regard, much to our arms/shoulders dismay as they suddenly take chase while we had been leisurely walking along. Also, River has marked pretty much every inch of the area over the last 4 years, because that’s what he does.
