Geocache Description:

CACHING IN ON THE TOUR DE FRANCE

To celebrate Stage 2 of the Yorkshire Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2014 finishing in Sheffield on Sunday 6 July, here is a selection of caches, mostly “cache and dashes” for which you will need two or four wheels, along the route of the race through High Bradfield, Worrall, Oughtibridge and Grenoside.  I suggest parking on Fairholme Heights, but be careful crossing the road and don’t expect to find it on the day of the race as the roads will be closed to traffic all day.

SOME FACTS ABOUT THE 2014 TOUR

  • The 2014 race is the 101st Tour and will cover a total distance of 3,656 kilometres.
  • Stage 2 - York to Sheffield - covers 201 kilometres, passing through Knaresborough, Blubberhouses, Keighley, Haworth, Ripponden, Huddersfield, Holmefirth, Langsett, Midhopestones, High Bradfield, Worrall, Oughtibridge and Grenoside to finish at Sheffield Arena .
  • The 2014 Tour will also pass through Belgium and Spain as well as the United Kingdom.
  • 198 riders will compete in the race in teams of 9 riders (22 teams).  Team members must be dressed alike, except those in coloured jerseys.
  • All riders must wear a cycling helmet.
