There was a stopping place established in this area in 1876 called Rockford. This was to help the tired and weary traveller along his way. Robert Scott married a sister of Samuel & John Moore, who had settled at the Beaver Ranch, which later on became the Guichon Ranch. The Scott's built their home & inn approximately 5 miles from the head of Nicola Lake. Robert Scott was the sole postmaster for this area from Oct. 1, 1887 to Feb. 25, 1909. Mail was brought in twice a week for the ranchers and miners that lived in the area.
