The house across the street from this location once belonged to Uri Seeley, one of the earliest settlers of Lake County. Uri settled in Painesville Township in 1817, and purchased this house soon after. Uri served as the sheriff in the "old" Geauga county from 1824 to 1828. His house served as a stopping point for escaped fugitives from the south, as part of the Underground Railroad. He was a member of the first National Anti-Slavery Convention, and later was a representative to the Free-Soil Convention. He was one of the first members of the Presbyterian church. He died on August 10th, 1877 at 86.
