Il lavatoio di Santa Maria in Stelle è stato ristrutturato pochi anni fa. Alle spalle del lavatoio, sotto la chiesa, a qualche metro di profondità, sorge un ipogeo di epoca romana, comunemente chiamato “Pantheon”. Dal suo nome deriva il nome di questa valle: la Valpantena.
L'ipogeo fu costruito nel III secolo d.C per incanalare e condurre all'aperto le acque di una sorgente sotterranea. Ma aveva anche una funzione religiosa: era un tempietto sotterraneo dedicato alle Lympae e alle Nymphae, divinità acquatiche femminili.
Purtroppo, da molti anni il “Pantheon” è chiuso e non è visitabile.
ENGLISH: The "lavatoio" (wash) of Santa Maria in Stelle was renovated a few years ago. Behind the wash, under the church, there is a Roman hypogeum, commonly called "Pantheon". The name of this valley (Valpantena) derives from its name.
The Hypogeum was built in the third century A.D. to channel and conduct outside the waters of an underground spring. But he also had a religious function: it was a temple dedicated to Lympae and Nymphae, aquatic female deity.
Unfortunately, the "Pantheon" is closed and you can’t visite it.
