Geocache Description:

USS Hawaii (SSN-776), a Virginia-class submarine, is the first commissioned warship of the United States Navy to be named for the 50th state. (A previous large cruiser, or battlecruiser USS Hawaii (CB-3) was launched, but never commissioned, and was named after the Territory of Hawaii in any case.) The contract to build her was awarded to the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corporation in Groton, Connecticut. She was christened on June 17, 2006 and delivered to the US Navy ahead of schedule. She was commissioned on May 5, 2007. In July 2009, the Hawaii changed home port from Groton, Connecticut to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Virginia class submarines are a class of nuclear-powered fast attack submarines (hull classification symbol SSN) in service with the United States Navy. The submarines are designed for a broad spectrum of open-ocean and littoral missions. They were conceived as a less expensive alternative to the Seawolf-class attack submarines, designed during the Cold War era, and they are planned to replace the older of the Los Angeles-class submarines. Virginia-class submarines will be acquired through 2043, and are expected to remain in service past 2060. But with recent updates to the designs, some of the Virginia class subs will still be in service in 2070.

Note: This geocache is NOT part of the United States Battleship Final series. You will not find a code in this one.
