Geocache Description:

β€œWhenever I need to 'get away', I just get away in my mind. I go to my imaginary spot, where the beach is perfect, the water is perfect, and the weather is perfect. The only bad thing there is the flies. They're terrible!”

Welcome to BC's newest park! West Vancouver Council officially dedicated Whyte Lake Park in June of 2014, primarily in response to the provincial government's heavy-handed expropriation of Eagleridge Bluffs in 2009. Despite numerous protests, the Sea-to-Sky highway was realigned to cut through an environmentally sensitive area to expedite access to the 2010 Olympics events in Whistler.

The namesake for this new park is a small lake which is itself named after Colonel Albert Whyte, who was a principal figure in the West Shore and Northern Land Company. Col. Whyte laid out streets and building lots from Horseshoe Bay to Whytecliffe in the early 1900s.

Beginning in 1899 the local hillsides were logged extensively, and Whyte Lake became headwaters for a flume that carried logs and shinglebolts down to the docks at Horseshoe Bay. And while there is virtually no lingering evidence of the flume, if you peer into the calm, still waters of the lake you can see remnants of old timber and stumps in the depths.

While you are visiting this breathtakingly beautiful area you might feel the urge of Nature calling, and when you gotta go, there’s great comfort to be found a short hop-skip-and-jump away from the lakeside. I’m talking about this classy Kybo that can be found beside GZ.

You will find the cache container hidden close by, alongside what I refer to as β€œKybo Lane”.

β€œWhat’s a Kybo?” you ask? Well, the word comes from the Scouting movement, and is used to refer to any temporary latrine facility. Some will suggest the word is an acronym for "Keep Your Bowels Open", but that's just an old Scouts' tale. More likely, the word derives from the fact that long ago campers often used empty coffee cans to hold powdered lime which was sprinkled over the collected waste to alleviate odor and promote decomposition. Apparently one popular brand of coffee amongst campers was called Kybo, and the rest, as they say, is history!

Please rehide the cache in the same manner you found it and, as always, remember to keep thinking Deep Thoughts!
