We have had reason to visit this intersection many times during our high country adventures and on each occasion there have been either a group of 4WD's or motorbikes. A popular pit stop! So this is either where the adventure has commenced, nearing its end or perhaps you are smack bang in the middle of it. This is the intersection of Bluff Link Road, Bluff Track and the 16 mile Jeep Track. You are either heading to an exit via Sheepyard, Bindaree Road to the Falls and Craigs Hut or the Bluff Track which takes you to Bluff Hut, King Billy and ultimately the Wonnangatta Valley.
This intersection is located in the Alpine National Park. Bluff Link Road is generally accessible year round however it is best to consult the Parks Victoria website prior to your journey to determine your best route. Closure usually occurs from the Thursday after the June Queens Birthday long weekend up until the Thursday prior to the Melbourne Cup weekend in November. Further information can be obtained at Parks Victoria at www.parkweb.vic.gov.au . Please be aware that access to the public is also prohibited on Code Red Fire Danger days, avoid the National and State Parks on these declared days.
Please remain on the formed tracks at all times and carry your rubbish out of the parks.
The cache is hidden a short distance away from the intersection via an old walking route. A spoiler photo has been included together with a hint. From GZ you will have views across to the Bluff.
Take care! (From Park Notes - Alpine National Park Valleys and Bluffs - Parks Victoria)
Mountain roads are often unsealed, narrow and winding. Take care as roads may be slippery at any time of the year. Deeper into the park many roads are suitable only for experienced four wheel drivers.
When driving through the park please remember:
- check road and track conditions before setting out on 13 1963
- vehicles, including trail bikes, are restricted to formed roads. Vehicles must be fully registered and drivers licensed.
All visitors, especially walkers, should realise that weather conditions can change rapidly in alpine areas. Snowfalls can be experienced in the alpine area at any time of the year and water can be extremely scarce, so always be prepared with:
- warm clothing
- wind and waterproof jacket
- gloves, hat, sunglasses and strong footwear
- first aid kit and sunscreen
- energy food and water
- compass and relevant topographical map
