In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14^th. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on that day in 1777
The United States Army also celebrates the Army Birthday on this date
In 1916, President Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day.
Did you know the original version of the Pledge of Allegiance in 1892 reads “I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
In 1942 the pledge was formally adopted by Congress.
On Flag Day in 1954 the words “under God” were added.
