Information about this Series

The HMAS cache series has been created by Cankid and Delta Response Team to celebrate the 2013 fleet review and this is 8 of 101 caches. The series features 53 ships, 11 bases, 20 knighted seamen, 5 engagements and 1 cache about the RAN. There are also 9 puzzles for each section of the series, with one final cache. There is also one extra for the enthusiasts out there. The series can be done in a day and is best done in order. The best mode of transport in doing this series is bike.

The Location

The series is located just off Coppins Crossing road and continues through an area quite close to the arboretum. Park at the parking coordinates as provided in the first cache and continue from there. Please show caution and do not obscure the gate. This series will take almost all day so plan ahead, take water and snacks for the trip. As said previously, it is best done by bike. Most of the caches are on fire trails but there are some where you will have to go off track to find them.

Perth (III) is the eighth and final Anzac Class frigate to be built by Tenix for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Two other ships of the class have also been commissioned into the Royal New Zealand Navy.

The first steel for Perth (III) was cut on 23 August 2000 and the keel was laid on 24 July 2003. Perth (III) was launched by Ms Margaret Gee, daughter of Perth (I) survivor Allan Gee, on 20 March 2004. Perth (III) was commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy on Saturday 26th August 2006.

Perth (III) is the first of the Anzac Class ships to undergo the Anti-Ship Missile Defence Upgrade. Based on the success of this extensive Upgrade, Government will consider upgrading the remaining ships in Class.

The ship can embark a multi-role Sikorsky S-70B-2 Seahawk helicopter to enhance anti-submarine, anti-surface warfare and Search and Rescue capabilities. Embarkation of a helicopter also provides the ship with the capability to deliver air-launched torpedoes.

The name Perth carries with it the proud histories of two former RAN warships. The Officers and Sailors of Perth (III) look forward to building on the excellent reputations earned by our two previous namesakes.
