Geocache Description:

I have placed this geocache on a beached fishing trawler located on the southern end of Cedar Island on Virginia's Eastern Shore. The boat, named the "Laura J", is roughly 70 feet long and has been on the beach since January of 2010 when it ran aground. Everyone onboard was saved and the Coast Guard was able to remove fuel and other contaminants so that they wouldn't leak into the water. The cache disappeared but was thankfully replaced by Cartland. His help is greatly appreciated.

Please read the following before setting out for this cache: The cache is located on Cedar Island, one of Virginia's many barrier islands. Having spent a lot of time at the old coast guard station (now beach house on the northern end of the island), I have grown to appreciate everything that this area has to offer. When we first discovered the ship wreck, we were amazed at it's massive size. Since 2010, I have had many opportunities to explore the ship and I now want others to explore it too. Here are a few things to keep in mind before setting out for this cache: You will need a boat. If your boat has a motor, I STRONGLY suggest that you ask some locals about various sandbars and oyster beds in the water. The conditions are changing every day and I wouldn't want anyone to get stuck. Pay close attention to the tides. Shoes that can get wet will make your life a whole lot easier. I have marked a waypoint titled "Anchor Point" where I believe is the best spot to anchor your boat. It would be a good idea to have someone stay with your boat to avoid the risk of getting beached. Don't let these warnings discourage you from going for this cache. When you get there you will be amazed. The container is a tupperware box. I have decided to make the hint very obvious so that you don't go all the way out there and come up empty handed. I have left some ocean related toys in the cache as well as a gift card to "Stingrays" restaurant located near Cape Charles for the first to find. When onboard the ship, I would advise you to take caution of where you are walking and what you are touching. The cache is inside the wheel house. Unfortunately, I am only able to check on the cache a few times every year so I am relying on the caching community to let me know of any problems with the cache itself. Don't hesitate to email me with any questions regarding the cache (however I will not be able to answer questions about water conditions as they are constantly changing). I am hopeful that this proves to be a memorable cache for everyone who finds it. Enjoy!
