TB hotel on the Wensum Way Carrick circular.
The Wensum Way
A stunning and invigorating walk with spectacular views as you follow the course of the River Wensum through a traditional Norfolk farming landscape. The Carrick estate comprises two farms, Castle Farm situated by the river Wensum and Park Farm. Both farms were once part of the 7500 acre Bylaugh estate which was sold in 1919. castle farm was probably named after an earlier moated house in a bend of the river. The farms produce mixed arable crops and have a small pedigree herd of rare White park cattle. The White Park cattle are of an ancient lineage dating back more than two thousand years. The walk crosses an old deer park one of over 60 medieval deer parks in Norfolk. Look out for White Park cattle grazing from May to October. Small white butterflies during July and August in the hedgerows and wildflower meadows. Swans, canada geese, ducks, tufted ducks and kingfishers on and around the Wensum. Deer and pheasant in marshy land around the river. Lapwings, barn owls, herons and numerous other birds. Much more information as well as maps of this and other walks are available on the Norfolk trails website.
