A Little History:
On June 8, 1999, a tractor-trailer carrying a backhoe that exceeded the maximum height requirement struck a pedestrian footbridge over the Baltimore Beltway just northwest of the Interstate 95 junction near Arbutus. The footbridge collapsed onto the inner loop of the Beltway. One driver was killed when his SUV struck the collapsed bridge; six others were injured, three critically. The incident occurred during the afternoon rush hour. The footbridge had been closed to pedestrians since November 1996 due to complaints from area residents.
Why We Picked This Spot:
Our small son loves geocaching and all things transportation related. We frequent this spot on evening walks as it affords us a great view of traffic as it passes by on the beltway. This cache was filled with tradables, a log, and a small pen. Very small cash prize to the first to find. We wanted to create a cache and dash for beginners and young kids. This is our very first cache and we hope you enjoy it!
