お遍路とは、四国にある八十八箇所の寺を巡ることです。この巡礼は1000年以上の歴史があり、世界遺産への登録が目指されています。
巡礼目的だけでなく、その歴史や文化を学ぶ目的で、八十八箇所巡る人も多くいます。
どの寺も古い歴史がありますので一見の価値があります。
四国八十八箇所は、歩き遍路で約1200km、一ヶ月。自動車で一週間が目安です。
The Shikoku Pilgrimage (Shikoku Henro) or Shikoku Junrei is a multi-site pilgrimage of 88 temples associated with the Buddhist monk Kūkai (Kōbō Daishi) on the island of Shikoku, Japan. A popular and distinctive feature of the island's cultural landscape, and with a long history, large numbers of pilgrims (known as henro) still undertake the journey for a variety of ascetic, pious, and tourism-related purposes.
