Most everyone from the North Texas area knows or has heard of Sandbassking&Queen, if you don't or haven't - come on and climb out from that rock you live under!
Sandbassking&Queen have this really cool tradition that dates back to the early days of Geocaching where they would FIND 1000 caches and also HIDE 100 caches in a calendar year, once the goal is met, they follow their achievement up with a Geocaching event. I've found 1000 caches in a calendar year and I know first-hand what a chore that can be - forget the hides! 2014 marks SBK&Q's 10th consecutive year of achieving this lofty goal!
So, this year the annual celebration was Splish Splash, held on June 21, 2014. A great time was had by all who attended because of the hospitality that SBK&Q so kindly extend. Young cachers, old cachers, first cache finders, no matter - everyone is always welcomed and made to feel at home.
During the soiree, SBK&Q told me a story about the run up to this years event. They met their 1000 find goal and had already published hide number 99. All they needed was one more hide to meet their goal of 100. The last spot was located and SBQ said to SBK - "I think it needs to be a little more to the left". SBK obliged. SBQ then said - "No, maybe a little more to the right." SBK obliged. "Oh wait" says SBQ, "down a little", "a little more"... This went on for a few minutes and needless to say, the cache eventually popped out of their hands and was lost for good – or was it??
I had met up with SBK&Q at the posted coordinates to recreate the scene of that mid-June afternoon. I asked SBK&Q to go through the motions leading up to the tragic loss of the cache container. With paper and slide-rule in hand, I took notes and made some measurements while they went through the events of that unforgettable day.
It seems that SBK pulled on the cache with a force of 200N at an angle of 60 degrees to the North East while SBQ pulled on the cache at an angle of 45 degrees to the South East with a force of 120N. Armed with this detail and the posted coordinates, I was able to help them find the missing cache container – it flew through the air and landed; remarkably I must say; at a distance (in feet) equal to their combined force (in Newtons) placed on the container.
SBK&Q felt the container should stay where it landed and graciously let me publish this cache in their honor. So now, can you find it too?
Please enjoy, leave things as you found them, and remember to CITO. Happy Trails everyone!
