Geocache Description:

The James F. Atchison Memorial Park is located behind the Lyon Township Municipal Center, which is located at 58000 Grand River Avenue in New Hudson and is on the site of the former township landfill (or "dump" as folks called it) that has been repurposed for public use.

The park opened in 2009 and is open daily from dawn until dusk.  Please be advised that vehicles are not allowed to enter the park during winter and early spring due to the roadways not being plowed and/or the ground being extremely soft.   The park usually opens for vehicular traffic sometime around late-March or early April each year.

James F. Atchison Memorial Park is also home
to to the annual Lyon Township Kite Festival

"Mephisto" standing watch from the hill

A "sculpture park" has been started within the former landfill-turned-park and the first sculpture was placed in October 2011.

The first artwork is a "cutout silhouette" of a 19-ft. tall man and is titled, "Mephisto," by artist John Suave.  The sculpture stands on a hill in the park, overlooking I-96, and can be clearly spotted from the busy freeway down below.  Suave is a local artist to the Brighton Area and this is the first artwork to arrive and be erected here, with many more to planned to follow soon.
