Cerrillos Hills State Park Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

tealeaf: Most of those who attended got 4 of the 7 souvenirs of August. Thanks to everyone who came. This would be a great place to do another event and this park has a lot of activity programs. All of the caches placed for the event have been published. We still have the bowl that came with pasta salad. Let us know if it is yours. Special thanks to bob8bear, jimaggi and SandiaFamily for placing caches and to cnoorlander and SandiaFamily for helping Jim restore the room to its pre-event condition. We know what happened to those leftover cookies but we'll never tell...

Geocache Description:

Cerrillos Hills State Park is the newest addition to our state park system. As a member of the committee that put together the State Parks Challenge in 2008, it's embarrassing to have missed this transfer from Santa Fe Open Space. We went to check it out and met the park manager, Sarah Wood, who is quite supportive of caching. They have a delightful new community room with an outdoor patio, available for public use.

We looked at the available dates and took this one. We know it conflicts with the Block Party in Seattle but consider it a consolation event for those who can't work in the trip to the northwest. We're pretty sure this site will work for future events.

The event will run from noon to 3pm.  We will have a potluck. We cannot cook at the site so we won't be grilling but we do have electricity so if you do something special in a crockpot, bring it warm and we can plug it in. Post in your "will attend" what you will bring and we will update the list on this page. No alcohol is allowed at the site.

There will be some new caches released. We have permission to place a State Park cache, in line with the ones that were part of the original challenge and it will be at the Visitor Center. It's not a huge park but there is room for a few more and they will be easily accessible. Cell coverage is spotty so if you cache only with a phone, team up with someone who does it the old-fashioned way.

There is a $5.00 day use fee per vehicle for the park. If you have an annual state parks pass, it's included. The 1/1 rating is for the Visitor's Center. The Visitor's Center is in the village, not in the park. Exploring the park trails will raise the terrain to 1.5 to 3.5
