[ITA] L'ossario austro-ungarico di Quero ospita le spoglie di 3.232 soldati austroungarici e di 229 soldati appartenenti al Corpo Alpino germanico (Alpenkorp), raccolti nelle zone circostanti che furono teatro di guerra nel 1917-1918. Tra di essi, 2.596 caduti sono senza nome.
L'edificio venne costruito nel 1936-1939 sulla sommità del Col Maor, impiegando enormi blocchi di porfido rosso provenienti dalle cave del Passo Rolle; molto imponente, è visibile da tutti i paesi della conca del Piave.
Mediante una scalinata si accede ad una suggestiva sala d'onore con volta a crociera, nella quale si trovano quattro nicchie ricoperte da mosaici colorati raffiguranti un soldato afflitto presso la tomba di un altro soldato e la fratellanza tra gli uomini. Al centro della sala un pesante blocco di marmo di Svezia sorregge due libri di metallo con incisi i nomi dei caduti.
La cache è nascosta immediatamente all'esterno del monumento, che è visitabile tutti i giorni con orario 8.00-19.00 nella stagione estiva e 8.30-17.00 in inverno.
[ENG] Quero Austro-Hungarian memorial hosts the remains of 3,232 Austro-Hungarian soldiers and 229 soldiers belonging to the German Alpine Corps (Alpenkorp), collected in the surrounding areas that were the theater of war in 1917-1918. The names of 2,596 of them are unknown.
The building was raised in 1936-1939 on the summit of Col Maor, using huge blocks of red porphyry coming from Passo Rolle quarries; it is very impressive, and it is visible from all the surrounding villages.
A staircase leads to an evocative honor room with a vault roof, in which four niches host colorful mosaics depicting a soldier afflicted near the grave of a comrade and brotherhood among men. At the center of the room a heavy block of Swedish marble holds up the names of the fallen, engraved on two metal books.
The cache is hidden just outside the monument, which is open every day from 8:00 to 19:00 in the summer season and from 8:30 to 17:00 in winter time.
