Geocache Description:

  • Have you looked at a WhereIgo listing and wondered what is that all about?
  • Have you perhaps thought that you would like to put out your own WhereIgo?
  • Perhaps you have fought through publishing a WhereIgo and know some pain.

From the very beginning I have been fascinated with the WhereIgo. I had all these grand ideas of what could be done. Way back then (2008), I downloaded the Builder and dove in. A few hours later I crawled out again nearly crying in mental pain. I looked back into the whole matter in 2012 and there had been some improvements. In November 2012 I published my first WhereIgo as part of Going Caching 2012. Trek's Treasure Tromp has been one of my favorite caches that I have put out. Over the years, I got the bug to put out more of these caches. For various reasons, mostly work, I was not able to follow through with any of the projects. Recently I jumped back in and got my second WhereIgo published. This time with more advanced programing. For me, it was a big boost. While I was working on this project, I thought some about why there are not more of this type of cache out there. The number one thing I kept coming back to was that it just seems that most people do not know much about them. A lot of what they think they know is outdated and/or rumor.

It was right then that I thought the best way to get more of these caches out in the world was to get out the information of what is currently available for both Players and for Builders of this type of cache. To that end, this event is being hosted to do just that.

The event will begin with a short Meet-N-Greet. We will then go into a lecture style presentation on the basics of WhereIgo, both Players and Builders. There will be a short demonstration of one of the available builders. Questions will be allowed throughout the presentation. The end state of this event is that everyone has a basic grasp of WhereIgo and perhaps some will even be ready to take on a basic WhereIgo cache of their own.

Please do not think this is a full class on how to build a WhereIgo. There is not likely to be any learning projects and a finished product is fully out of the question.

GC22A47 Trek's Treasure Tromp --- Will be used as an example
GC582C9 Southern Ops: Cold Storage --- May be used as an example

Please, if you have questions about WhereIgo before the event, email them to me so that I can work up answers and perhaps include them into the presentation.

The event will be from 12 pm (Noon) to until 2 pm officially. It is likely people will remain later. Even if you are not interested in the lecture part of the event, feel free to drop by to say hello.

The event is being held at a Pizza Buffet. You do not have to purchase to attend. While it may seem crass, the lecturer will be at least nibbling the entire time.
