Arboretum Information:
The Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens, a regional center for conservation, recreation, and education in the Jacksonville area, is host to over 120 acres of ecological wonders. The Arboretum & Gardens showcases a huge diversity of wildlife, plant life, and landscapes common to the Florida area. The trails are open to the public daily from 8 AM – 5 PM (closed Christmas). No entry fee is required to access the facility though a donation of $2 per visitor is requested. What makes this location unique in its natural setting is the uncommonly close proximity of its many species varieties and landscapes. All of the trails are kid-friendly, but remain aware of your surroundings at all times. Many plants are showcased along the trail, including poisonous plants like sumac and ivy. Dogs are also welcome, just make sure to keep them on a leash and pick up after them. Please note that there are no dogs allowed on the Rosemary Scrub Vista connector trail, a very short section of trail on the interior of the Rosemary Ridge Trail.
Letterbox Instructions:
There is no need to step off the designated trails at any point in your adventure to find this letterbox hybrid. Please keep your feet on the path at all times to prevent bringing any damage to the landscape. At the posted coordinates you will find yourself standing amongst a cluster of palm trees within eyeshot of a bridge. Begin your adventure by crossing the bridge and then taking an immediate right-hand turn. You will see a sign indicating which trail you are on. Take a left on the loop and stay on that trail, taking care to hang right when faced with a choice to go elsewhere. Once you have crossed the clear space, you will know you are on the right track. Just a little further to reach the goal! Keep your eyes peeled for 2 signs indicating a trail crossing. Proceed toward the dead end. At the final fork in the road you will be standing within arm's reach of the "Devil's Walking Stick". Don't touch - It's got a mean bite! From this spot you will proceed directly south at a 180 degree bearing for 150 feet to reach a small viewing area. You will be searching for a small screw-top container hidden at the base of the platform. Though there was no poison ivy in the immediate vicinity of the cache at the time of placement, it is abundant in this area. Please take special care not to touch any "leaves of 3".
Please DO NOT REMOVE the stamp and ink pad located inside the cache. These items are an essential part of the letterbox hybrid and need to remain with the container. Also, please be sure to rehide the cache so that it is wedged back into place, using naturally available camo to hide it completely from the sight of the muggles that frequent this area.
