Cilybebyll is ancient Welsh for “retreat of tents” as the Romans had a place of worship and encampment here.
There has been a Church on this site since the 12th century AD, the Tower is the oldest part of the Church and contains the second oldest ringing bell in Wales.
The present Norman-style building was substantially restored in 1869 and has a seating capacity of 130.
The Churchyard is built in the circular shape, the ancient tradition has it that a circular Churchyard gave the Devil nowhere to hide.
The oldest stone is dated 1717, outside the main door of the church is the base of an ancient Celtic Preaching Cross.
