Bryan Trottier was born on July 17th 1956 in Val Marie Saskatchewan. A talented centreman and a hard working Saskatchewan boy who almost quit hockey as a teenager. He had moved away from home to play hockey like a lot of Sask. boys and when he was home between games, he said he wasn't going back. He wasn't the biggest player and it was getting very rough on Bryan. A fellow player was sent by his coach to pick him up as he had a hunch he might not want to return. Sure enough, he had to be convinced to return, but his fellow player who was a lot bigger said they wouldn't bother him. And sure enough, from then on he had a lot more room on the ice and the rest is history.
His NHL career took him to the New York Islander during theinr dyansty years of which he played a huge role. A strong offensive player, he was the fastest player to reach many points and goal totals in the NHL until a player named Gretzky came along. In fact, in the early 1980's, Bryan Trottier was considered by many sports journalists as being a better player than Gretzky. He played for 18 seasons winning 4 cups with the Isles and 2 with the Penguins and one nmore as an assistant coahc with the Colorado Avalanche. He still holds the NHL record for the most points ion a single period with 6-4 goals and 2 assists, and is 1 of only 8 NHL players with multiple 5 goal games. In his rookie season of 1975-76, he scored a record 95 points and won the Calder Trophy for rookie of the year. In 1978-79 he socred 134 points and won the Art Ross Trophy followed by the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1980. He also won many other awards and played in 9 all-star games. He played for a total of 1,274 games, scoring 525 goals, 901 assists for a total of 1,425 points and 912 penalty minutes. His #19 jersey was raised to the rafters on October 20th, 2001 and he was inducted into the HHOF in 1997, his first year of eligibilty.
