Geocache Description:

This is one in a series of tributes to significant people in my family:

Harold Penticost Filmer

21.8.1913 - 17.11.1997

Harold was born on Penticost Island while his parents were missionaries there. The hospital he was born in was blown up by a volcano three months after he was born. His mother died of malaria when he was nine. After his mother's death the family came back to South Australia for a couple of years before returning to the island until 1929. Harold had many stories of life on the islands, including bungee jumping with vines and doing piecings for the Islanders.

They came back to South Australia on the last trip the ship called' Kanowna' ever made, it stuck rocks and sank at Wilson's Promontry leaving everyone  to go in liifeboats to a nearby cargo ship. On his return to South Australia Harold initially worked on a dairy with his father and brothers on the land that surrounds this cache, then continued dairy farming until he retired to Victor Harbor. This area has had four generations living here.

Suggest pull off the main road into the side road to grab this one. Please keep children under supervision as the main road is busy.

Please keep the swag to the theme of the cache.
