Melted Snowflakes Traditional Cache

Discover a road less traveled from Snowmass Village or from Old Snowmass near the base of the Campground section of the Snowmass ski area.  This is mainly a summer cache though you could get there in theory by snowmobile, XC ski, or snowshoe up from where the road is closed in the winter. DO NOT attempt this cache in winter from within the ski area boundary as you would be crossing a wide creek covered by deep snow.
 

From Snowmass Village descend on the good 4WD road just past the ski company maintenance garage at the top of Divide road.  In dry weather almost any 2WD vehicle can make it down and then exit out to CO HWY 82 via Watson Divide (shorter but steeper) or Snowmass Creek (by Old Snowmass).  Otherwise plan in/out via Snowmass Creek road which is paved most of the way then well maintained gravel the rest of the way to the cache.

By bicycle (mountain or hybrid) the mostly downhill route makes an interesting and longer alternative to Owl Creek as a way to ride to Aspen via the Rio Grande trail, conveniently passing by Woody Creek for lunch or refreshments, and get back to Snowmass by bus from town or from the intercept lot.

From along lower Snowmass Creek there are expansive views of the ski area, Mt. Daly, Capitol Peak, and Mt. Sopris.
