You can't help but notice the nearby sand mine when you visit GZ.
Sand is mined across the road from this cache in a large dry moving hole, which will move along the landscape as the mine accesses new mineral sands. The sand is then mixed with water to form a slurry, which is pumped across the road to the nearby processing plant (which you also can't miss from GZ).
The minerals in the sand are then concentrated to form a heavy metal concentrate, which is transported by road and rail to Adelaide and shipped to overseas for further processing. The heavy metal concentrate contains Zircon, Rutile and Ilmenite.
These minerals are used in the ceramics industry (in ceramic glazes), the manufacture of zirconia and zirconium, and the manufacture of food, pharmaceuticals, precision glass for electronic components, and for heat shielding in engines, electronics, electron absorbers in nuclear reactors, blast furnace linings for the steel industry and for space shuttles.
