Geocache Description:

This is series of 11 caches, approximate duration 3 hrs there and back. The route has been made wheelchair friendly which includes a few caches find-able from a wheelchair. It follows part of the Centurion Way which is tarmacked so suitable for wheelchair users. The route is 2.5 miles long one way, with several different access points to choose from to make it shorter etc. There are a few gentle slopes and a small amount of root damage, but we manged to roll over them. The route also has the added interest of some sculptures along the way. Also out gps lost signal a few times so we have made sure the clues are clear.
I hope you enjoy the route and mixture of caches. See if you can find my centurion friend CICERO, please say hi and don't forget to shake his hand.

The Centurion way:
The centurion way follows the path of a disused railway line from Chichester to Midhurst. Part of the route was opened in 1995 and then later in 2002 the whole route was completed and opened.

A bit about the old railway:
The Chichester to Midhurst Railway was opened in 1881 to improve access to London. The line included 3 tunnels and 8 stations, the most notable being Singleton due to its proximity to Goodwood Racecourse. The railway’s decline started with the withdrawal of passenger services in 1935 and the line north of Lavant was closed completely in 1957. The section between Lavant and Chichester was used for the transportation of sugar beet and gravel. However, this ceased in 1991 and the tracks were removed in 1993.
