Geocache Description:

From the given parking at Chestnut Street walk over the A249 bridge and proceed through the padlocked gate (chained to the ground) and continue along the bridleway.

PLEASE NOTE THIS ROUTE WILL BE ARCHIVED DURING APRIL 2016. NEW ROUTE WILL FOLLOW SHORTLY AFTER.

Route Description:-

Fruitcake’s Folly is a relatively short circular walk of around 4km along bridleways and footways comprising 15 caches. There are a few small inclines but nothing that’s too testing on strength and stamina. You will though need to walk along a short section of Wormdale Hill so please be wary of traffic especially if you have younger children or dogs with you.

Most of the walk is in relatively quiet and unspoilt countryside however the section between cache numbers 11 and 15 runs parallel to the A249 so some traffic noise is inevitable. Included in this stretch is a section that is adjacent to a large lay-by and, well, let’s just say it’s clear that there’s a lot of people that seem to have been caught short in the undergrowth! The footpath though is quite clear. We were hesitant at first as to whether to proceed with this cache route but as there’s no practical diversion around this section it seemed a shame not to place it just because of this 30m stretch. If, however, we receive lots of negative reviews or feedback then we will reconsider.

The caches are a mixture of different types but all should all be relatively easy to find (as the CO we would say that though.....), but an extraction device will come in handy for the odd one or two. Co-ords should be pretty precise but where tree cover exists then the hints should make up for any inaccuracy.

As there’s no bonus you can commence the walk anywhere along the route. Suggested parking is in any one of the lay-bys on Maidstone Road in Danaway or a little further north on the same road there’s on-street parking at the south end of Chestnut Street near the start of the route (Maattmoo’s adopted the A249 Bridge cache which can be found close to here). Both locations are near to steps that take you up to the bridges that cross the A249. O/S Explorer Map 148 covers the cache route. Think that just about covers it so I hope you all have as much enjoyment finding the caches as we did placing them.
