The cache is a camouflaged 35 mm film container. You will need to bring your own pen/pencil to sign.
Please replace as found and ensure it attached securely and cannot be seen easily by passers by.
The cache is part of a series around Cefn Mawr which can be done as a circular walk.
The area behind the tall metal fence and on top of the embankment is currently occupied by what is left of the Cefn Mawr chemical works. As the works grew in the early 20th century, more level land was needed to build on and the stands which ran through the site were buried underground in pipes.
One such stream is the Tref y Nant brook which can seen at GC51V7Y shortly before it goes underground, below the road and emerges from the hillside behind the chain link fence where you are standing.
Even further below ground here are believed to be two tunnels draining the coal mines which pre dated the chemical works. The tunnels or adits were dug to drain the water from the mines to stop them flooding. The tunnels run from Cae Glo (near GC51V5C) in the top of the village right down the River Dee near the aqueduct.
The location is surprisingly busy so you will need your stealth skills. Walkers and cars can quickly appear out of nowhere so I suggest walking past a few times until you spot it and can make a quick grab.
Parking is available on the road, but be careful as it is busy and cars drive along rather fast. It might also around suspicion. There is alternative parking nearby in the aqueduct overflow car park, and there are footpaths at the side of the road.
