Geocache Description:


EarthCaching is celebrating 10 years in 2014, and as a part of the celebrations geocachers everywhere will be participating in a special "Virtual 5k" meaning they can do their own 5k as a part of one big celebration. This event is a chance for us to come together to participate as a small group to contribute to the larger picture. This is a real get-together event! If you can't attend this event you can still participate in the Virtual 5k - see below.


On October 4 meet at the posted coordinates at 10:00 am. We will be hiking from the Earthcache GC4G3DB “The Never Ending Makeover” to the Simpson Reef Overlook along the coastal trail. We’ll start with shuffling cars between the starting and ending points. We’ll also take pictures at the Earthcache location to qualify as participants.


How the EarthCache Virtual 5k works according to the Geological Society of America:

Participants will run or walk a 5km (3.1 miles) path starting at or ending at an active EarthCache on any of the days over which the run is being held (Friday 3 October through Monday 13 October 2014). Time yourself from start to finish and take a photo of yourself holding a race 'bib' sign with the GC code of the EarthCache. At the end of your run, complete a simple form and upload your photo. Everyone who completes the run and uploads a photo will be sent an icon via email that you can display on your caching pages or website.
