Placed on Redbank Valley Trails near the site of a former train station. Trail is open dawn to dusk. Cache is placed with permission. This one is starting out as a clear micro vial until the proposed park is done along this section of the trail - then I want to make it a small. It shouldn't be hard to find if you use the hint - difficulty rating is due to high amount of muggles. Use extreme stealth so this one doesn't disappear.
This trail was named PA 2014 Trail of the Year and a day of events to celebrate that have been planned in New Bethlehem for 8-09-14, including a geocaching event, GC58ZGR.
This cache, which is located about where the train station stood, is 20½ miles from Redbank, where the RVT starts and 20½ miles from Brookville, where the RVT ends.
New Bethlehem was established in 1853 and the railroad was completed in 1873. The train station here consisted of a freight depot and a passenger depot. New Bethlehem was a bustling town back then and the railroad played a very important role in moving lumber, coal, etc.
I'm not sure when the depots were demolished, but I do know the last train went through here in November, 2007. I'll post more info later if I find out anything else.
Congratulations to Tenacious Tubby for FTF.
