This area contains two wharves. One is open to the public and popular for recreational fishing. It also currently houses a coffee roastery and there is a lovely aroma some days. Unfortunately you are not able to buy coffee here! The Wharf was used until 1989 when the last small tanker berthed there.
The other wharf is private and oil tankers from around the world stop there to off load oil. You can watch the red tugboats come over from Wellington to steer the large tankers in. Pipes running alongside the Marine Drive take the oil to huge storage containers in Seaview.
This area is explosed and can be wild in a Southerly but nice views to Cook Strait on calmer days.
